Robert Kelly, known as Robbie to us and his friends, owns a car wash and valeting business located right here at Portarlington Enterprise Centre. Today we chat to him about his growing business, and how being a business resident at the centre has impacted upon him.

With a 37 year background in railways, Robbie retired at 55 and decided that he wanted to use his retirement as an opportunity to live life to his fullest, and do something he was really passionate about.

Starting with family and neighbours, Robbie began washing cars in his free time and quickly realised it was something that he loved.

“I have a passion for cleaning cars. I am a very positive person with nit-picky, high standards.”

Robbie developed his passion into a small business and moved into his unit in Portarlington Enterprise Centre late last year. Since then, his business has been growing from strength to strength. Robbie prides himself on his attention to detail and listening to what the customer wants, which he believes leads to happy customers.

“When I come to work in the morning and I clean the first car of the day, it’s important to me that the very last car gets the same treatment as the first.”

Robbie said that the support he receives at PEC has been very important on his business journey.

“The Industrial Unit was already up and running, so it was easy for me to start the business. The support from head office has also been great,”
